REVIEW: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Amnesia the Dark Descent is horror/thriller game. The really cool aspect of this game is there are no weapons. You are completely defenseless. A lot of the game revolves around the use of light. Staying in the light keeps you sane, but attracts monsters. Staying in the dark will keep you hidden however your sanity will begin to drop and things will seem distorted. Witnessing unsettling events, such as doors blowing open, or looking directly at the monsters also drops your sanity.

So this was basically me the entire time. I played with my volume pretty loud, and I must say. Its downright TERRIFYING.  Watching the video doesn't do the game justice though, doesn't seem to scary. But once you immerse yourself in the game and get the feeling of total helplessness thats when the game really starts to kick your ass. You will have hours of slowly walking around each corner shutting every door behind you stopping on the spot just because you heard a noise, then preceding to run as fast as you can through the next couple rooms.

At one point in the game, known as the "water part" by most; you enter into a set of hallways and rooms filled with around knee high water. You never quite see what is chasing you but the noises are enough to get your heart pumping. As you run through the area barricading doors as you go, its never quite enough you can hear it beating on the door the seconds you close it. The fear this induces, I haven't felt since I was little and played Doom.

Overall, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, is a nice break from my usual nonstop RPGs and other genres. Its a fun game to put a couple hours into each day, or to play with friends. I give it a 7/10 for being a truly original game that made me want to wet myself.

For those of you interested in the game, head out to your local stores and give it a buy, or just get it off amazon.

  7. I've heard soooo much about this game and I decided to check it out last month. My total game play time is a whooping, yes you guessed it, 5 minutes.

As soon as I hear or see the slightest hint of something freaky, my fingers instantly move to alt+f4 haha.

I don't recommend playing it with headphones. ><"
